Omaheke Governor’s Cup Kicks Off in Gobabis; Officials Address Alcohol Abuse and Youth Engagement
GOBABIS: The much-anticipated Omaheke Governor’s Cup officially began at the Legare Stadium in Gobabis, located in the Omaheke region.
According to a news release by NAMPA, the tournament was inaugurated by Omaheke Governor, Pijoo Nganate, who urged young participants to seize the chance to display their abilities. Nganate stated that the event is not merely a Governor’s cup but a regional occasion for all of Omaheke’s citizens to identify with.
Nganate used the occasion to call upon the Gobabis municipality and other towns in the region to strictly enforce by-laws controlling alcohol use, particularly among the youth. The governor highlighted that issues of alcohol abuse have increasingly become problematic and contribute to poverty and malnutrition in the region.
“Our children should not be disturbed the whole night and go to school tired the next morning. The issue of noise pollution and alcohol abuse must be something of the past in the Omaheke,” Nganate stated.
Ignasius Gariseb, the Omaheke Regional Chairperson, indicated that the tournament serves as evidence of the regional leaders’ commitment to nurturing a system that enhances diversity, sport, and recreation.
Gariseb noted, “Today we come together to create a platform, not only for spirited competition among the seven constituencies but also to discover the regional talents that will proudly represent our region at regional, national, and international events.”
